raising awareness

at the pmdd project, we believe that everyone should know what pmdd is and that no one should struggle in silence

PMDD is a severe and often misunderstood condition that affects hundreds of thousands of people in the UK – but very few know what it is, including healthcare professionals. Current estimates of those impacted by PMDD are likely too low, because many people are simply unaware that their experiences are linked to a specific condition. Without broader knowledge, countless individuals are left unsupported, misdiagnosed, or dismissed.

At The PMDD Project, we are committed to making PMDD a familiar term, so that those affected can find their voices, access resources, and, above all, feel seen. We’re driving this change until the day comes when no one has to ask, “What is PMDD?”

Our approach to raising awareness focuses on four core areas:

educating the public on menstrual health & pmdd

We aim to break the silence around menstrual health by providing accessible, fact-based education about PMDD and other menstrual health conditions. With menstrual health still a taboo subject in many communities, the current sex education curriculum doesn’t offer young people the comprehensive knowledge they need to navigate the difficulties of womanhood. We believe that educating children about menstrual health from an early age can pave the way for a healthier, more supportive future.

bringing awareness into the workplace

By hosting workshops for businesses, we’re building supportive workplace environments where employees feel empowered and understood. Our workshops provide managers with the tools to support their staff effectively and teach employees how to recognise and support colleagues dealing with PMDD. We want every workplace to be an inclusive space where employees experiencing PMDD can receive the understanding and flexibility they need to thrive.

advocating for Policy Change in Healthcare, the Workplace, and Government

Beyond raising awareness, we are committed to driving lasting change. The PMDD Project will work tirelessly to create, implement, and advocate for policies within the healthcare system, workplaces, and government to ensure that PMDD is recognised as a priority. Through policy change, we aim to establish frameworks that support education, provide resources, and ensure that people with PMDD have access to the care and understanding they deserve.

changing the narrative around pmdd

Ultimately, our goal is to reach a place where PMDD is a recognised, well-understood condition that no longer needs an introduction. Through partnerships, campaigns, and consistent outreach, we will shift public perception and build widespread awareness of PMDD.
